Welcome to Climate Tribe City – Post 1 of 2:
An introduction to Climate Tribe Social: our structure, our intent, and what comes next.
Part I: Introduction
Right off the bat, I want to acknowledge the many remarkable efforts already underway: the organizing, the research, the worldwide engagement, and the people who have given years of their lives to Climate Justice Advocacy and Activism. And yet I cannot shake the feeling that something critical is missing, in two parts. The first is real financial support for the people who are suffering most. The second is an organized platform that focuses squarely on the Five Emergencies, and above all on the Climate and Ecological Emergency.
Some of you know that I have been working quietly, and at times not so quietly, on a few ideas that might help. What follows is the manifestation of that work. Many of you have waited while this platform was built, rebuilt, and built again, and we have noticed that patience (at least from those closest to me).
You may have noticed that I call myself the Content Curator of Climate Change Community rather than its owner or founder. There are two reasons for that. First, in a few years I intend to hand ownership of the company to a young girl who is a pre-teen today, so that this work is carried forward by the generation that will live with its outcomes. Second, I strongly want our membership to play a real part in calling the shots: how we grow, what we build next, and how we make the decisions that shape this community. Climate Tribe Social, SDL5.org, and every child-site of Climate Change Community are meant to belong, in the truest sense, to the people who show up for them.
That is why this moment matters. The Collections and Spaces that form the foundation of this platform are now ready to be populated. A Collection is a family of Spaces grouped by theme. A Space is an individual hub where members gather; some stand alone and some belong to a Collection. More of both will come, and much of what comes next will be decided by what our members ask for. The Structure & Intent post lists every Collection and Space, with its pricing and a short description of what it is for.
Climate Tribe Social has been expanded and revamped so thoroughly that we sometimes call it Climate Tribe City, because that is what it has become: a city with a neighborhood for every part of this emergency. We designed it together with the help of an advanced AI, and we built it to be as inclusive and wide-reaching as possible. It covers climate science and climate organizations, our children and young adults, front-line responders, and the legal and democratic questions that will decide what happens next. There is a place here for experts and specialists, everyday workers, parents, scientists, elders, artists, and anyone who wants to learn how to respond. Because a city can grow, we can add new Collections and Spaces whenever the community needs them.
If you are reading this before December 21, 2026: invitations to become a founding member are going out now. The announcement is at the start of Part III.
Where We Do Not Compromise
Two things on this platform are not negotiable, and we hold them strictly.
The first is the absolute dignity of, and respect for, every human being. The lifeblood of this platform is respect, kindness, empathy, consideration, sincerity, and compassion. Disagreement is welcome here; contempt is not. If you are considering membership and cannot accept and practice these values, we kindly ask that you find your way to one of the many other social platforms where they are not the focus.
The second is your right to expression and to your own identity. Climate Change Community will not mine data about you, will not sell information about you, will not trade on your identity, and will not push advertisements at you. Members are welcome to share links to their own companies and businesses, because supporting each other’s livelihoods is part of building resilient communities. But you are a member here, not a product.
I should say plainly that this platform runs on Mighty Networks, which includes integrated AI features. I do not intend to collect anything beyond what is required to subscribe, and I am in touch with Mighty Networks about how their practices line up with our policy. Their privacy policy governs their side of the platform, and I will link it here alongside our own so that you can read both. Separately, SDL5.org has these privacy protections built in, although the some plugins we use there do collect a username, a name, and an email address.
We also expect maturity from our subscribers. Check what you share before you share it; a link you have not read is not a source. Feelings of doom or of an approaching end of times are real, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The same is true of deeply held religious conviction. Share them if they are part of how you see this. What we ask is that you not press them on other members or try to persuade people into them. Members will call that out, and we would rather no one ended up on the moderation list at all, so please avoid the kind of actions that put you there.

About the Platform Features
This is important and I want to state it clearly. The features we have enabled are built around networking and collaboration, so that members can put their attention on whichever part of the emergencies they choose. From beginning to end:
- Feed: Each Space opens with an Ice Breaker question.
- Chat: Available throughout, though we have disabled Voice Chat in almost every Space until the platform grows a little.
- Discovery: Where we highlight and amplify some of our own content, as well as yours.
- Welcome: A section describing more about the Space you are currently in.
- Members: Where you network and connect with other members.
- Events: Where anyone can share an event. This is also where our 11-Person Dialogue Sessions will live.
- Hashtags: A bit more advanced than most, and useful for cataloguing points of interest: just tick the hashtag you want.
Now about those features. We could have disabled some of them or limited their use, but we would rather treat our members as mature adults. That includes the ability to write and share an article or blog post inside the community, which is a feature we ask you not to take advantage of. We left most of the features open because we expect members to interact with each other like adults, and not to use these tools to share assumptions or misinformation, to create static, or to take advantage of others. We do have strict moderation in place, and members can use it as well.
Part II: A Message About AI
AI helped build this platform, and we want to say so openly from the first page.
We use artificial intelligence as a practical tool for research, writing, strategy, and education. It helps us turn dense reports, bills, and scientific findings into something people can understand and act on. Used well, AI can help a single parent make sense of a heat emergency plan, help a small organization draft a grant proposal, or help a neighborhood compare its options before storm season. That is the kind of AI we believe in: AI that makes people more capable, not more dependent.
We also hold AI to the same honesty we ask of everyone else. It makes mistakes, and it can sound confident when it is wrong. It uses real energy and water, and the data centers behind it carry real costs for communities and the climate. That is why the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Collection includes a Space dedicated to Data Centers & the Energy Cost of AI. It is also why Climate Change Community is committed to Green AI practices, including locally run models and cleaner approaches to how data centers are powered and cooled.
Most of all, AI will never replace what makes this community work: human cooperation, trust, dialogue, and shared responsibility. AI can help us think. It cannot care for one another on our behalf. On Climate Tribe Social, people stay at the center, and AI stays in service to them.
Our platform makes use of Mighty Networks’ AI integration. In fact, many of our Ice Breaker questions were written with it, and it helps us improve content. We are looking for more ways to put AI to work for members, and one idea we want to explore is a solutions or idea-based section for specific communities. We are still learning what is possible here, and your suggestions and input will help shape it. Bring them to The Idea Engine.
Part III: A Message to Those Who Will Build This With Us
Announcement
From October 1 through December 21, 2026, we will be focused strictly on personal invitations, sent by electronic means or by postal mail. These are invitations to be founders, the first members of our first platform, Climate Tribe Social. They are going out to a range of people and organizations, but if you would like to receive one, please send a no-link email to contact@climatechangecommunity.com. Your message will be opened in an isolated, disposable environment, for security, and answered from there.
Between now and then, we open a new Space or Collection somewhere in the network just about every Sunday. The platform opens fully to the public on December 21, 2026. If something delays that, our fallback date is January 2, 2027.
This announcement is, in my opinion, crucial for both parents and leaders, and it is worth acting on: consider becoming a founding member. We must elevate our climate action now, and I strongly sense that what we are building here is one of the right paths to take.
To Parents
You are raising children in a world that is changing faster than any previous generation has had to face. You do not need to have all the answers, and you do not need to carry this alone. Climate Tribe Social offers Spaces for Families and for Children & Youth, along with practical resources on extreme heat, health, food, and disaster readiness. The goal is to help you protect your household today and help your children grow up capable, informed, and hopeful rather than afraid. Bring your questions, your worries, and your wisdom. Other parents are here doing the same.
We want to be explicit and direct: the age required to hold an account on this platform is 18. That is a legal line, not a judgment about young people. Younger family members are welcome, and encouraged, to take part alongside a subscribing parent or guardian.
To Young Adults
I think of young adults as roughly 18 to 39, a definition that probably says as much about my own age as it does about yours.
You inherited this emergency; you did not create it. Yet you are already leading in ways many adults are only beginning to understand. This platform is a place to learn the science, the policy, and the practical skills of resilience. It is also a place to encourage work, purpose, and community in the transition ahead. Your voice will shape what this platform becomes. When we say the membership calls the shots, we mean you.
You hear us always harping about protecting our children, and we mean children of all ages. We also stress protecting our biodiversity, and we see no difference between the two when it comes to the effects of the Climate and Ecological Emergency. We understand the frustration of young adults, children, and parents, and we know how much the frustration of witnessing incapable leadership makes our situation worse. We push back with this platform.
Never feel that you do not know where you fit in this fight for a better future. And it is a fight, because the fossil fuel industry and other unethical entities prefer you ignorant and easy to control. Your fight is a large one, and regardless of what you hear, you must prepare for a world that will be very different from the one we are facing now. Please follow the posts I share, as I will be covering whatever news I find about what lies ahead, and I hope others will do the same. There are great things happening, but not fast enough, and because of that we will feel the effects.
To Leaders
You may lead a city, a congregation, a classroom, a union, a business, or a block association. Whatever you lead, the people who look to you need clarity and courage right now. Climate Tribe Social gives leaders a place to learn from one another across sectors and borders and to test ideas before they become policy. It also asks leaders to be held, kindly and honestly, to the values this moment demands. Leadership here is measured by how well you serve.
We want to invest real effort in our leadership Spaces, helping leaders see the integral part they play in what we are facing, and how much harder it becomes because of leaders who act to line their pockets, who align themselves with the fossil fuel industry and other unethical entities, or who follow others with aspirations of becoming authoritarian.
We have all now witnessed first-hand the effects of leaders who are corrupt, who seek to control through ideology, who align themselves with known dictators, and who show no concern for their constituents and their communities. They project an air that everything is normal, with lies and deceit. If you do not accept what I am saying here, look for yourself at the period we are living through.
To Front-Line Responders
This is for firefighters, nurses, emergency services crews, law enforcement, farmworkers, teachers, infrastructure workers, essential services workers, and everyone who keeps communities running when the worst arrives. You see this emergency before the rest of us do. The Front-Line Guilds exist so you can speak with your peers, share what works, and be heard by the people making decisions. We are grateful for you. We want this platform to carry your experience and your skills to the places where they can do the most good.
We also know that views on both sides have not always been favorable, but division can no longer be allowed to continue or to grow longer legs. We have to work together and let go of judgment and division, because these times demand a unified move forward out of necessity. Evolution here is not a religious word: it is progress with compassion and empathy, rather than staying in a rut or believing we have arrived at the end of time for humanity.
To the Future Founders of This Platform
You read the announcement at the start of this section; please consider reaching out to me before I reach out to you; (contact@climatechangecommunity.com).
Every early member is, in a real sense, a founder. The first 2,350 subscribers will always be recognized as Founding and Senior members. The decisions we make together in these first years will shape Climate Tribe Social for a generation. Some of you will propose the Spaces we have not thought of yet, and some of you will lead them. One day, someone reading this may help carry the whole platform forward. We are building it to outlive any one of us.
11-Person Dialogue Sessions
I will be posting more about this, and about a host of other ideas, in The Idea Engine space. For a long time, since 2017, I have thought that we needed a platform built around direct, face-to-face dialogue. That conviction grew stronger through the various mentors I have had and still do in life.
Speaking on behalf of Climate Change Community LLC, I sense that this is one of the missing keys. I have seen how helpful face-to-face dialogue is from attending climate video sessions hosted by other organizations and groups.
So the idea has evolved into hosting 11-Person Face-to-Face Dialogue Sessions inside Climate Tribe Social, starting once our founding membership is established (grows): weekly at first, and perhaps a few times a week after that.
Alongside this comes a deeper involvement of the membership in decisions, through polls, through proposals in The Idea Engine, and through the Dialogue Sessions themselves.
To begin with, I am thinking we run these sessions through The Symposium as a test, and extend them to individual Spaces as our founding member base increases.

Artificial intelligence was used to enhance the creativity and thinking behind this post. The vision, the values, and the final word remain human.
All content and documents related to Climate Tribe Social and SDL5.org are living resources, permanently under construction and in ongoing draft revision. This is by design. The Climate and Ecological Emergency is accelerating, the science keeps advancing, and the needs of our communities keep evolving, so our materials must evolve with them. We update them as new discoveries emerge, as new spaces and collections are added, as members offer feedback, and as society itself changes. What you read today may be refined, expanded, or corrected tomorrow, and we welcome your help in making it better.
We strongly encourage you to read both the Terms of Service (LINK) and the Privacy Policy (LINK) at adaptive-resiliency.info/, as they govern your use of all Climate Change Community LLC sites, including Climate Tribe Social and SDL5.org.
