Updated 9.29.26 – The Financial Support Program

What we are building, and where it stands today.

When the Financial Support Program (FSP) launches, we expect eligibility to begin with paid plans. The exact rules will be published before any money moves. For legal and community-trust reasons this comment is the most up-to-date and firm about the FSP. (9.30.26)

***********

One day, when a member loses a home to a flood or a fire, we want Climate Change Community to be able to send money. Not a loan. Not charity handed down from above. Support from the community that member belongs to. That is the Financial Support Program, and it is one of the reasons this platform exists.

Where it stands today

The FSP is not running yet. Right now it is a plan and a commitment to keep working at it. Subscribing does not entitle you to a payment, because there is nothing yet to pay out. Please do not join expecting money. When that changes, we will say so plainly, in writing, with terms you can read.

What it is meant to do

Once it is running, the FSP is meant to send modest, timely financial support to two groups: members who have been seriously harmed by climate-driven disasters, and communities living through the worst of this emergency. It would sit alongside government relief, insurance, and humanitarian aid. It would never replace them. It is one more layer, from people who chose to stand together.

What has to happen first

We will not start sending money before we can do it properly. Four things have to be true:

  • Our costs are covered: technology, security, legal, accounting, and administration.
  • The money is kept separate: funds for the program held apart from the funds that run the company.
  • The rules are written and published: who qualifies, what proof is needed, how decisions are made, and how to appeal one.
  • An attorney has reviewed it: including taxes, cross-border payments, privacy, and protection against fraud.

Reaching that point depends on how many people subscribe. Growth is what gets us there. That is the honest connection between a subscription and this program: your subscription helps build it, and does not buy a place in it.

What we commit to in the meantime

We will not treat this as a someday idea. Until the FSP is active we will publish the baseline it requires, report at least twice a year on how close we are, and keep the money set aside for it separate from operating funds. We will never describe the program as available before it is. And if it takes longer than we hope, you will hear that from us, with the numbers attached.

Members will help shape it

This is not a program we intend to design behind closed doors. Eligibility, limits, and priorities will be worked through with members in our 11-Person Dialogue Sessions, in polls, and in The Idea Engine. Anything that changes will be discussed openly first, so that nothing arrives as a surprise.

What it is not

The FSP is not insurance. It is not an investment. It is not a guarantee of payment or income, and it is not a benefit that comes automatically with membership. Any figure we have discussed in planning, such as an upper limit of around $1,000 per payment, is a working idea and not a promise. Final amounts would depend on the money available, verified need, the number of people affected, and the duty to treat similar situations consistently.

Restraint, on the record

Climate Change Community holds a hard annual compensation cap of $235,000 for any owner or staff member, covering all forms of pay. No exception can be made without a transparent member vote and the formal corporate action the law requires. One number does not solve inequality. It does set a limit before growth can make excess feel normal.

Why we are saying all this now

We could leave these ideas in the realm of wishful thinking, where they would sound generous and cost nothing. We would rather do the slower work of making them real: refusing to promise what does not yet exist, building the safeguards before the scale, and telling you exactly where we are along the way.

Kindness, once organized, can become a force powerful enough to change outcomes.
